Trading holiday on Jan 15, 2026 due to Maharashtra elections
The National Stock Exchange (NSE) and the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) have announced a trading holiday on Thursday, January 15, 2026, on account of the Municipal Corporation Elections in Maharashtra. As per exchange circulars, multiple market segments will remain closed for the day, while commodity derivatives trading will be partially available.

Exchange Circular Reference
In an official communication, the NSE stated that Thursday, January 15, 2026, will be observed as a trading holiday in the Capital Market and Derivatives segments, in partial modification of earlier exchange circulars, due to the Municipal Corporation Elections in Maharashtra.
A separate notification confirmed that the commodity derivatives segment will remain closed during the morning session and will resume trading during the evening session.
Settlement Holiday – Important Information
January 15, 2026, is also declared as a settlement holiday. As banks will not provide clearing services on this day, no settlement-related activities will be carried out.
Key settlement implications include:
• Pay-in obligations for trades executed on January 14, 2026, will remain blocked from the available margin limits on January 15, 2026
• Settlement for trades dated January 14 and January 15, 2026, will be conducted on Friday, January 16, 2026
• Trading Members are advised to maintain sufficient margins to ensure uninterrupted trading after market reopening

Due to the trading and settlement holiday:
• Equity, F&O, and currency traders will not be able to place trades on January 15
• Commodity traders can participate only in the evening session
• Fund availability and margin utilization may be impacted due to deferred settlements
