When a rights issue is announced, eligible shareholders receive Rights Entitlements (REs) in their demat accounts. These are temporary securities that give investors the right—but not the obligation—to apply for additional shares under the rights issue.

REs can also be bought and sold on the stock exchange during the permitted trading window. Here are the REs trading in September 2026:

What are Rights Entitlements (REs)?

A Rights Entitlement is a short-term instrument issued to eligible shareholders when a company launches a rights issue.

Here’s what this means for investors:

  • Credited to your demat account: Eligible shareholders receive REs based on the entitlement ratio announced by the company.
  • Represents eligibility: REs indicate the number of additional shares an investor is entitled to apply for at the rights issue price.
  • Tradable on exchanges: REs can generally be bought or sold during a specified trading window.
  • Temporary in nature: REs have a limited life. If investors neither use nor sell/renounce them within the applicable deadlines, they may lapse and become worthless.

In simple terms, REs provide investors with flexibility—they can participate in the rights issue, sell their entitlement during the trading period or choose not to act.

What Can You Do With Your REs?

If REs are credited to your demat account, you generally have three options:

Apply for the Rights Shares

Use your REs to apply for additional shares at the rights issue price announced by the company.

For example, Containe Technologies has an entitlement ratio of 2:1 at an issue price of ₹15 per share. This means eligible shareholders are entitled to apply for two rights shares for every one share held, subject to the terms of the issue.

Sell the REs on the Exchange

If you do not want to invest additional money in the company, you can sell your REs on the stock exchange during the permitted RE trading period.

For September, investors should pay particular attention to the renunciation deadlines. Esaar India REs can be renounced until September 8, Containe Technologies until September 22 and Manoj Jewellers until September 24, 2026.

Take No Action

If you neither apply for the rights shares nor sell/renounce your REs within the applicable timelines, the REs may lapse and cease to have any value.

Rights Issue Example

Suppose ABC Ltd announces:

Issue Ratio: 2 shares for every 7 shares held
Issue Price: ₹85 per share
Current Market Price: ₹140 per share

If you hold 70 shares on the record date, you may receive 20 REs.

You could then choose to:

Apply for 20 rights shares at ₹85 each
Sell the 20 REs during the RE trading period
Take no action, in which case the REs may expire after the applicable deadline

To Sum Up

Several Rights Issues are active in September 2026, with key RE trading and subscription deadlines spread throughout the month.

Investors should remember that REs are time-sensitive and simply holding an RE does not automatically allot shares. To participate, investors must apply and make the required payment before the issue closes.

Keep track of both the RE trading deadline and Rights Issue closing date to avoid letting your entitlement lapse.
